Who among us does not have a personal vision of "The Faun", a being that abounds in references, symbols, reflections, and ways of thinking about dance… This personage as mythological figure has been used by many artists, from Mallarmé's poem to Nijinksi's creation danced by Nureyev and more recent versions by Lifar and Balanchine, among others. Caught between an awareness of aging and a seductive animal subconscious, the dancer and musician, who never ceases to dance, embarks on a conquest of eternal youth. Going beyond the mythical creature, he brings us to experience the faun within us all. "Lines rushing downwards, zigzagging, plunging dreamingly, distractedly, multiplyingly,… into desires that expand, that release… Henri Michaux
Hovering in the space between realism and surrealism, this contemporary piece with a timeless dimension does not develop a style, but rather a history of dance from Nijinksi to the present. Francis Plisson and Jean Aussanaire are not attempting to re-invent the work, but rather to explore "The Faun" in the context of our nascent 21st century through a choreographic and musical creation.
