« My creations do not emerge from some willed concept, but from a real need. Calling into question the body and its dance – a thought-leading questioning – is something I’ve always been obsessed with, from the representation of the body to its instinctive capacity for expression. I’ve restricted my work to two basic questions: first, how can choreographic creation coexist with here-and-now spontaneity, and second, what potential explorations can arise from the relationship between dance and music? As for the theme of the piece – planned or spontaneous, dance-based or dance-centered – it is always a reflection of my being in the moment. Choreographic constraints involve what I would consider as the choice to no longer have a choice. Holding back, expending – passing on the energy, developing a coded language – collecting exteriors signs so as to transform them into body paths. An invention of the moment based on a creation of emptiness. A small part of old age devolving on the child. The body-music, a flowing hand slowly chases silence away – my heart is thumping. My musical approach is always choreographic and my dancing is nothing but music. To me, their creation is inseparable. No space for dream for either one. » Francis Plisson
